winter storm sparta

Some of the loose moisture associated with with winter storm Sparta has started to impact the San Antonio region. Do not be surprised if you see wintry mix and some ice. This ice will mainly pertain to bridges and overpasses where the temperatures can super cool. Right now, temperatures of the ground and air are too warm to lead to any major ice accumulations over night tonight. Do use caution this evening and tomorrow though. Although this system will bring us cooler temperatures, the temperatures will begin to rise steadily for the next couple of batches of rain through Monday evening and Tuesday morning early.

Winter storm Quantum

As suggested on Friday, we may not get moisture from the first system that pulled to our east and did not dip as far south as projected. This next system “Winter storm Quantum” will not miss us. Although, it appeared to be moving in earlier this week for late this evening, we will not be seeing any impacts from it until tomorrow afternoon. Also, this will push back the timing of any super cold rain/ice/sleet/snow that might hit San Antonio. Rain showers will become more numerous Sunday evening into Monday and as the cold air mass pushes through the Dallas area Sunday afternoon and San Antonio on Monday afternoon. We could potentially see some sleet/ice/snow Tuesday early am. Any sleet will not accumulate as temperatures of the ground will be warmer but bridges may still be impacted by ice. Areas of concern include the hill country and a line about 100 miles north and east of San Antonio. Areas Austin and north should be aware of icy conditions for Sunday evening late (Dallas) and Monday evening late (Austin).

Tomorrow’s front

Well the front has pulled slightly east so the likelihood of showers tomorrow morning from winter storm Pandora are much less. There may be a couple of rain drops. This has also dropped chances for the back side of the system bringing any moisture for Saturday morning but there is still some hope. Sunday evening through Tuesday still has potential from the next set that will be pushing in. These rain chances will be monitored for changes in the jet stream that have pushed the rain chances tomorrow morning to the east.

In with the wet and out with the dry weather

There are a few systems that will be coming in the direction of San Antonio. The first chance of rain starts early am tomorrow and may impact commutes slightly with slick roads due to light rains. The second stronger batch will hit Friday super late into Saturday morning with potential for strong storms (this is still under further insight as to the strength of the squall line). Saturday evening late into Sunday morning represents another pretty decent shot of rain as well as Sunday evening late into Monday morning. Much cooler temperatures will hit Sunday evening into Monday morning possibly providing us some freezing rain/sleet. Temperatures will be too warm for any problems with the commute to school in the morning however do use caution on bridges and overpasses as they may get some ice. The last shot is for Thursday evening late next week… this can still change as well as other closer dates and will be monitored accordingly depending on upper level air movement.

rain and cooler weather is coming

Yes, we were just getting use to spring weather but we do have an arctic system dipping into southern Texas later tonight. This system will interact with some Mexico moisture coming in from the pacific and give us some decent chances of rain tomorrow through Monday evening. However, these chances may be somewhat spotty and not as long lasting as we would like. Most of the moisture with extreme cold will stay 100 to 200 miles north but will drop the temperatures into the lower 30s for Tuesday morning after the boundary moves through. Winter precipitation will most likely impact the Dallas area Sunday night late but the amounts of rain will keep its impacts low. The best time for winter precipitation/snow will be Monday evening late into Tuesday morning in Dallas.

cold weather and rain

As we speak, cold front to the north is pushing southwest to bring cooler temperatures while a front to the southwest in Mexico is going to bring rain showers in the morning through the evening. We will most likely start seeing showers at around 6-7 am but will most likely start an hour or two after that. The commute may have some light drizzle.
